Keeping the Energy Alive: Why the Y Keeps Quinn Moving

Quinn trains and teaches actors in Burlington, a job that demands a lot of energy. Leading groups through the wonderfully strange world of theater exercises requires not only creativity and mental agility but also physical stamina. To stay sharp and energized, Quinn has made fitness a central part of his routine—and the Greater Burlington Y has become an essential part of that routine.

His favorite workout? Swimming—particularly the challenge of swimming in a straight line. “I taught myself to swim about ten years ago and I feel like I’m just now getting good at it!” he says. There’s something meditative and satisfying about moving through the water with intention and focus. For Quinn, it’s one of the few places where he can be fully present in his body, free from distractions.

As an actor, Quinn’s work is deeply physical and holistic. “I understand that the mind, body, and self are all part of one whole,” he says, and he approaches his craft with that same philosophy. Exercise isn’t just about fitness; it’s how Quinn maintains energy, curiosity, and engagement. If his body isn’t active, his mind tends to check out as well. Staying physically active is how he keeps both their spirit and creativity alive.

When it comes to motivation, Quinn credits routine as his secret weapon. He meets his gym buddy, Lainey, once a week at a set time—a weekly appointment that’s become a key part of their wellness practice. On other days, Quinn swims before heading to work. Over time, this rhythm has become second nature. Rather than needing to talk himself into it, Quinn genuinely looks forward to his workouts, especially the chance to connect with Lainey.

One of the things that has surprised Quinn the most about the Greater Burlington Y is how nice everyone is. There’s a warmth and kindness that permeates the space, making it feel like more than just a gym. It’s a true community hub—whether someone is lifting weights on the Wellness Floor or swimming in the pool.

For Quinn, the Y isn’t just about staying in shape. It’s about staying connected—to his craft, to his community, and to himself. He’s grateful to have found a place that supports his energy, creativity, and holistic approach to life and work.

To the staff and members of the Y, Quinn says simply: thanks.
