As an accredited organization by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and a 5 Stars rating from the State of Vermont Quality Rating and Improvement Scale, you’ll be a part of a team that values structure, consistency, and development of both children and staff.

We offer child care for infants, toddlers and preschool in Burlington and Winooski.

As a Head Teacher, you’ll play a valuable role in the Early Childhood Program by planning and implementing a developmentally appropriate and stimulating curriculum for children ages six weeks to two years of age, following the philosophy and standards of the Y and in conjunction with the NAEYC guidelines for Early Childhood. Programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain professional and positive relationships with families respecting any differences in family backgrounds or parenting styles.
  • Communicate with parents/guardians through daily interaction and communication to promote an understanding of each child’s growth and development.
  • Maintain observation-based records for children to participate in two family conferences per year.
  • Supervise and develop Teacher Associates through team goal-setting, feedback, and participation in an evaluation process.
  • Maintain a neat and organized classroom and participate in occasional center cleaning duties.
  • Ensure safety at all times in the building by reporting failures and improvements to the Director.
  • Ensure that all Vermont Childcare Licensing requirements and regulations are maintained at all times. Maintain a NAEYC classroom portfolio and update documents regularly.

Requirements:

At least twenty (20) years of age and meets one of the following criteria:

  • Vermont Early Childhood Career Ladder Level 4 A or B
  • A Bachelor Degree in Early Childhood, Child or Human Development, Elementary or Special Education, or Child Family Services and at least one year of experience working with children birth to age 8.
  • A Bachelor Degree with the completion of at least 30 college credits with an early education or school age focus and at least one year of experience working with groups of children ages 8 or younger.
  • Hold a current Vermont Agency of Education Teaching License with an endorsement in Early Childhood, Early Childhood Special Education or Elementary Education.

As a Teacher Associate, you will assist in planning and implementing a developmentally appropriate and stimulating curriculum following the philosophy and standards of the YMCA and NAEYC guidelines, participate in the development and execution of curricular programs, establish professional relationships with parents, and enrich and nurture the lives of our young children.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Head Teacher in developing and implementing a curriculum with appropriate activities for individual children’s cognitive, physical, social and emotional development.
  • Participate in planning and implementing weekly activities and classroom routines.
  • Develop and maintain positive and professional relationships with families, identifying differences in parenting and life styles.
  • Communicate effectively and appropriately as needed with parents to promote an understanding of each child’s day, growth and development.
  • Attend all program parent/child functions such as art shows and recognition events.
  • Assist the Head Teacher in maintaining records of each child’s growth and development and in gathering assessment and conference information on each child.
  • Meet weekly with Head Teacher to address classroom plans or issues.
  • Lead the class in the event of an absence.
  • Assist in the supervision of all activities to ensure the safety of every child.
  • Assist to maintain a neat and organized classroom and assist in the maintenance of equipment and materials as needed.
  • Participate in swim lessons, physical education lessons, and on field trips as necessary.
  • Communicate appropriate information to the classroom teachers and the director.
  • Communicate child concerns with teaching team and/or Director prior to notifying parents or guardians.
  • Supervise nap time with by helping children rest if necessary and/or accomplish work within the classroom if the children are resting comfortably.
  • Assist in maintaining all relevant state Child Care Licensing requirements.

Requirements:

Applicants must be at least 20 years of age with a High School Diploma or GED and meet one of these requirements:

  • Vermont Early Childhood Career Ladder Level Three (3); or
  • Associate Degree with a major in Early Childhood, Child or Human Development, Elementary Education or Child and Family Services and at least one year of experience working with children under age 8; or
  • Certificate of Completion from the Registered Child Care Apprenticeship Program; or
  • Child Care Certificate from the Community College of Vermont and at least one year of experience working with children under age 8; or
  • Successful completion of 21 college credits with an Early Childhood or School Age focus and at least one year of experience working with children under age 8.

  • Assist teachers at swim lessons, gym lessons, and on field trips as necessary.
  • Communicate appropriate information to the classroom teachers and the director.
  • Communicate child concerns with classroom teacher and/or director prior to notifying parents or guardians.
  • Ensure professional communication and relations with parents, families and guardians.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Supervise nap time with the teachers by helping children rest if necessary and/or accomplish work within the classroom if the children are resting comfortably.
  • Assist in maintaining all relevant state Child Care Licensing requirements.

Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years of age with a High School Diploma or GED and meet one (1) of the following qualifications:
  • A Vermont Early Childhood Career Ladder Level One (1) or Two (2) Certificate; or
  • A current CDA (Child Development Associate); or
  • A State Board of Education approved Human Services Program Certificate that emphasizes child development or early childhood education; or
  • Completion of the Fundamentals for Early Childhood Professionals course or the Vermont Afterschool Essentials Certificate; or
  • Successful completion of three (3) college credit course in child or human development or school age care and education.

  • Completion of a three (3) college credit course in child or human development, school age or education within the first twelve (12) months of employment.
