American Red Cross Classes
We’re pleased to be offering the following American Red Cross programs here at the Y. Whether you’re looking to get certified, or to be re-certified, we’re here for you.
We can also bring these trainings to you! Do you need First Aid or CPR training for your staff? The Y now offers corporate First Aid and CPR classes and will send the instructor to you. Have your staff trained in your own facility on your own time.

Basic CPR and First Aid
This course teaches participants the knowledge and skills needed to give immediate care to an injured or ill person and decide if advanced medical care is needed. You will receive your First Aid Adult, Child and Infant CPR and AED certifications.

Lifeguard Certification Course (Ages 15 & Up)
Looking for a rewarding job? Train to be a lifeguard. Our comprehensive Lifeguard Training course includes accident prevention, lifeguarding techniques, emergency systems, and rescue skills. Course will also include CPR for the professional Rescuer with AED, and First Aid.
– Minimum age: 15 years
– Swim 300 yards continuously.
– Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs.
– Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds. Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. Surface dive to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object. Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point. Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.

Lifeguard Re-Certification Course
Are all of your certifications up to date? Test your skills to assure keeping people safe in and around the water. Two Day Program. Choose from the available dates below. Only those with a current certification can enroll in this class, those with an expired certification are expected to enroll in the full certification class per the American Red Cross.

Babysitter’s Training Course
This course provides youth ages 11-15 who are planning to babysit with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and responsibly give care for children and infants. This training will help participants to develop leadership skills, learn how to develop a babysitting business, keep themselves and other safe and help children behave, as well as learn about basic child care and basic first aid. Children will not become CPR and 1st Aid certified.

Pediatric CPR and First Aid
If you’ve completed the American Red Cross Babysitting Class, it’s time to get certified in Pediatric CPR and 1st Aid! This class is designed for students who have completed the babysitting course and are ready for more. In it students will receive their pediatric CPR and 1st Aid Certification through the American Red Cross. Babysitters Training is a prerequisite and you must bring your pocket mask you received during that training to this one.

Waterfront Lifeguarding- for Current Lifeguards
The purpose of the Waterfront Skills module is to teach lifeguards the skills and knowledge needed to prevent and respond to emergencies in nonsurf, open-water areas found at public parks, resort, summer camps and campgrounds. Candidates must have a current American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED.

Lifeguard Instructor Course
The Lifeguarding Instructor (LGI) course trains instructor candidates to teach American Red Cross student-level courses including Lifeguarding, Waterpark Skills, and CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers. This instructor course does not teach student-level lifeguarding skills and knowledge. Participants must come to class already knowing student-level lifeguarding content.
Prerequisites: Instructor candidates must be at least 17 years of age by the course end date. Candidates must show American Red Cross lifeguarding certification and professional-rescuer CPR/AED certification, both of which must be current (not expired) as of the first day of the instructor class. Candidates must complete online pre-course homework prior to the first day the class meets – info will be emailed to candidate once registered for the course.
