Hilary and Lillian’s Story

“I am Y” tells the stories of Y members and staff and the transformative power of community. This is the Hilary and Lillian’s story:

Hilary: “I was a new mom when I joined this Y. I found that I was able to maintain my commitment to fitness and connect to a whole community of new mothers.

“I found a network of other parents who have kids the same age, which provides a valuable outlook and sounding board. You get connected to this family and then you get connected to that family, and all of a sudden you have a core group of people you can count on for anything. And it’s hard to get that. Today, we’re part of a whole community of parents.

“As a new mom, if you’re not working outside the home, it can be isolating. Going to the Y was huge for me. It’s where Lillian and I connected. Our kids were in preschool together at the Y. We’d sit and talk before pickup or after pickup or drop-off. Lillian encouraged me to try TRX strength training, which was incredible because after three babies, my core needed it.

Lillian: “Hilary was the one who encouraged me to learn how to swim. I had a near-drowning experience when I was a child. After that, I was always afraid of the water. Now, I have three children who love to swim. The preschool program at the Y teaches them water safety and swimming at a young age. I wanted to share that fun with them. The Y, and Hilary, have helped me be able to share this experience with my children. The Y is helping me make memories with my little ones.”

The Y is here for Hilary and Lillian, and we are here for you. Join us at the new Y, opening January 2020.
