Introduction to Fencing
Students will be introduced in the sport of fencing! Students will learn safety rules, skills involving the “on guard” stance, advance, retreat, and lunge, basic knowledge of parries and blocks, good sportsmanship, impulse control, critical thinking, and observation skills. Coach Geoff Butler has taught fencing since 2009.
Ages: 7-16 years old
When: Mondays, September 18-November 6 from 4:00-5:00pm
Equipment: Equipment rental is included in the cost of the program. We will be using training gear appropriate to for the age of the group approved by “Fencing in Schools”. Equipment includes face mask, plastic epee, and chest protector that lights up and buzzes when hit. Students should wear long pants and long sleeve shirts as well as appropriate athletic shoes.
Requirements: Each student must have a US Fencing Association noncompetitive membership. This is good for one year and it cost $10. Each student will need to have a waiver signed by parent or guardian. All forms will be provided prior to the start of class.
Map and Compass
Students will learn basic map and compass navigation by LL Bean’s Outdoor Discovery School! Even with modern technology, the best foundation for navigation know-how is still having map and compass skills. Come learn how to stay on course with our experts. Class will be held outdoors, please dress appropriately.
Ages: 8-14 years old
When: Tuesdays, September 19 – November 7 from 3:15-4:30pm
Where: Students will meet in the learning lab, C107, prior to heading outside
Cost: $100, Y Kids $90
Young Rembrandts Drawing Class
Back to school is in full swing as we present of bountiful of drawings that introduces students to the world of color, pattern and design! Students will learn cultural themes as they draw color Kawaii inspired art. All this and more awaits in the Young Rembrandts classroom!
When: Thursdays, September 21 – November 2, from 3:15-4:30pm (YR instructor picks students up in cafeteria)(no class October 19)
Where: Art Room C212
This exciting program promotes fun, self-awareness, and community involvement! Cheer Team participants will learn dance, poise, arm motions, jumps, chants, cheers and mat skills. Students will practice each week and will perform at public events including at the Glow Run and Jingle Bell Express!!!
Ages: 5-11 years old
When: Thursdays, September 21-December 14, from 6:15-7:30pm(no class Oct. 19)
Cost: $110 (price includes ALL events)
Requirements: Parents/Guardians will need to complete and sign a waiver prior to the start of class. Participants will need to provide their own black bike shorts, black long sleeve shirt, white sneakers and white socks.
