We teach the nationally recognized Y Progressive Swim Program, focusing on personal safety and growth opportunities, stroke development, rescue techniques, and water sports and games. Our aquatics team plays a critical role in our Early Childhood Programs as well as our community and member programs.

At the Y, we believe the ability to swim is a critical life skill for every child, teen and adult. Our program pool caters to our members, participants and community with swim lessons, free swim and water fitness classes. Our commitment to safety requires a Lifeguard on duty at all times during Y operations.

In this role, you will be responsible for the safety, well-being and enjoyment of the aquatic programs and facility for all participants. Lifeguards are expected to interact with members and participants to create a friendly atmosphere, while ensuring all swimmers are in control in the swimming area.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain active surveillance of the pool area.
  • Ensure safe atmosphere to prevent injuries or acts of harm with ongoing supervision of the pool, pool deck and surrounding areas.
  • Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and now to respond to emergency situations in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
  • Respond to challenges with possible solutions in a timely manner.
  • Remains calm and objective when under pressure or when challenged by others.
  • Knows, understands, and consistently applies YMCA Pool Rules, safety regulations, policies and guidelines in the aquatic area.
  • Ensure no distraction or interference with the ability to hear or see signs of distress.
  • Ensure a safe, clean environment for staff and members. 
  • Ensure that pool staffing is within YMCA standards before leaving the area or performing other tasks. 
  • Perform pool maintenance duties in accordance with OSHA Hazardous Materials Precautions and document as needed.
  • Administer first aid to patrons using OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Universal Precautions. Provide immediate care to sustain life until Emergency Medical Service arrives.
  • Document and report safety concerns and incidents in accordance with YMCA reporting policies.
  • Maintain physical fitness with the ability to perform endurance swims and rescue procedures upon request.
  • Consistently provide friendly, courteous assistance, exceeding customers’ expectations every day, which includes building and maintaining healthy professional relationships with parents, children, host agencies, and staff.
  • Participate as a part of the aquatics team in providing a safe and positive environment. 
  • Arrive on time and in accordance with schedule. Demonstrate rescue readiness with proper attire and equipment in accordance with YMCA standards.
  • Perform chemical testing when not guarding, as required, and take appropriate action.
  • Perform equipment checks and ensure equipment is available as needed.
  • Attend staff meetings & in-service trainings, as required.
  • Maintain Lifeguard Certification.
  • Ensure proper coverage for scheduled shifts when needed.

Requirements:

  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Must have current CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification, standard First Aid and a Lifeguard Certification
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service skills
  • Must maintain good health and fitness
  • Must be able to swim 500 yards continuously during time of employment
  • Provide a patient and efficient approach to communicating with participants and members
  • Must love to swim!

In this role, you will be responsible for the safety, well-being and enjoyment of the aquatic programs and facility for all participants. Swim Instructor are expected to interact with members and participants to create a friendly atmosphere, while ensuring all swimmers are in control in the swimming area.

Responsibilities:

  • Protect the safety of all swimmers by preventing accidents and responding to an emergency quickly and effectively.

  • Greet and welcome participants by name with a smile and enthusiasm as they enter the Aquatics area.

  • Develop lesson plans using level specific skill sets for each class.

  • Take attendance at each class.

  • Complete participant evaluations and provide feedback to parents/guardians.

  • Maintain a knowledge of the skill progression to teach different levels of instruction.

  • Attend staff meetings, in-service, and training.

  • Enforce pool rules.

  • Arrive 10 minutes before scheduled class to prepare for lessons and pick up area after class.

  • Secure a substitute following sub procedure.

  • Work cooperatively as a team member with all staff, modeling behavior supporting the YMCA mission and character values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

Requirements:

  • Must be at least sixteen (16) years of age.

  • Ability to obtain or currently hold certification for CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and YMCA Swimming Instruction or Water Safety Instructor.

  • At least one year of experience working with children and adults.

  • Demonstrate a strong sense of patience and empathy.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and clearly.

  • Must have a firm grasp on the basics of swimming.

The Y offers youth programs for various ages, interests, and skill levels, so kids of all ages can learn and grow. Our goal is to provide a safe and encouraging environment for kids to build confidence and have fun!

Our sports programs keep kids active, teach friendly competition and introduce healthy practices for life. Sports and recreation at the Y create a healthy outlet for children to gain new skills, learn to work as a team and connect with positive role models — all in an inclusive environment.

Dance and gymnastics is a great way for kids to get active and express themselves creatively! These confidence building programs improves self-esteem, strength, flexibility, balance and coordination.

As a Youth + Family Program Instructor, you will execute these programs using your own experience and knowledge of gymnastics, dance, sports, music, art, and/or other youth and family events.

Responsibilities:

  • Set up appropriate equipment at least ten minutes prior to the scheduled start of the event.

  • Create content and curriculum using lesson plans to conduct classes in accordance with intended program.

  • Provide demonstration for program participants in the areas of gymnastics, dance, sports, or other related activities.

  • Take attendance at each event and record in the lesson plan binder.

  • Supervise participants during program to ensure safe behavior and effective programming.

  • Provide feedback to members and participants based upon progress and skillsets of individuals participating in the activity, sport, program, or class.

  • Follow YMCA policies and procedures; respond to emergency situations.

  • Attend staff meetings, as necessary.

  • Demonstrate the core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility toward staff, members, and participants.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Must be at least sixteen (16) years of age.

  • Have exclusive experience in the programs offered including gymnastics, dance, yoga, or other sports and fitness related programs.

  • Obtain and maintain CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications (within 60 days of first day of work).

  • Must be flexible to a schedule that may include some nights, early mornings, and weekends.

  • Ability to work with children of all ages, supporting growth, managing positive behavior while maintaining a safe environment.

  • Ability to interact with co-workers, members, and public in a professional manner.

  • Physically able to effectively speak, listen, and interact with participants.

Our state of the art Wellness Center attracts a diverse membership from young adults to seniors, with areas broken down by interest, cardio, agility training, and strength training. Additionally, our group fitness classes offer a variety targeted to strength train, relieve stress, sweat, build confidence, and burn calories.

This is a flexible opportunity interacts with members and participates to support a workout and health program to achieve their fitness and health goals. Our attendants promote our members’ fitness and wellness plans through support and education. Additionally, our Wellness Center Attendants provide an extra level of supervision to the Wellness Center to provide assistance and safe practices of equipment.

Responsibilities:

  • Coach members in support of their desired behavior change. Regularly check on members’ progress in meeting personal and program goals.
  • Answer questions from members to support them in achieving their goals related to healthy living.
  • Maintain working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.
  • Build effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members connect with each other and the YMCA. Introduce new members to group exercise communities based their health and well-being goals.
  • Utilizes tools and information for the purpose of increasing member knowledge of wellness as well as wellness programs provided through the YMCA (handouts, schedules, etc.).
  • Conduct post-enrollment interviews to understand new members’ definition of well-being, personal goals, cultural background, healthcare needs, diverse abilities and interests and develops plans to meet their individual needs.
  • Maintain cleanliness and mechanics of equipment according to the schedule or as requested by supervisor.

Requirements:

  • High school graduate or GED equivalent, preferred.
  • Experience with fitness equipment usage procedures and maintenance.
  • Ability to work within a diverse population of employees and members.
  • Provide effective and clear communication, while delivering exceptional service.
  • Ability to problem solve effectively and efficiently.
  • CPR/First Aid certification required in first 30 days of employment.

Our dynamic group of Fitness Instructors bring a diverse talent to the Y! Our instructors demonstrate a passion for yoga, Zumba, spinning, strength training, cardio training, barre, and simply leading a diverse group of people in achieving their fitness goals. This role executes group exercise classes to members and participants based upon interests, certification and enrollment.

Group exercise classes vary month-to-month and bring unique opportunities to up to twenty-five participants in a class. With both in-person and virtual classes, the Y always seeks new talent to teach our members.

Responsibilities:

  • Report to class at least ten minutes prior to scheduled start of class for required set-up.
  • Conduct classes in accordance with prescribed style, guidelines and methods.
  • Dress and act in a professional manner at all times.
  • Count attendance at each class and record where appropriate.
  • Make sure informed consent and medical history forms are completed by all class members prior to participation.
  • Use appropriate certification guidelines when preparing class format.
  • Be available after class for participant’s questions.
  • Responsible for distributing YMCA participant evaluations to all class members and returning them to the Fitness Director after every session.
  • Maintain all fitness certifications, CPR and First Aid during employment.
  • Attend workshops, employee meetings, and/or trainings as required.
  • Contact appropriate substitute instructors for your class in the event you are unable to teach.
  • Reflect and display the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility toward other staff members as well as facility members and guests.

Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Current adult CPR, AED and advanced First Aid certifications.
  • Current YMCA Group Exercise Instructor certification or by a national certifying agency, required.
  • Ability to interact with staff, members, and general public in a professional and effective manner.
  • Physically able to effectively speak, listen, and interact with participants during class.
  • Demonstrate fitness exercises appropriate for the group level(s).

Y Personal Trainers provide an opportunity to work with members to develop and implement a health program to achieve fitness and health goals. Personal Trainers may dedicate several hours a week serving members providing optimal flexibility.

Responsibilities:

  • Consult with members regarding their personal fitness goals and instruct them on how to achieve them through fitness training.
  • Design personalized training programs for members or participants.
  • Instruct members in the proper and safe use of equipment.
  • Teach members current training principles and techniques.
  • Inform members of current research pertaining to their fitness goals, health-related issues or prevention.
  • Provide individual supervision and encouragement during training sessions.
  • Promote the fitness area by personal example and verbal communication.
  • Maintain appropriate client records and notes.
  • Market, promote and sell personalized training programs to meet department goals.

Requirements:

  • Current certification in fitness from a nationally recognized organization (ACE, NCSA, AFAA, ACSM, etc.)
  • Experience with fitness equipment usage procedures and maintenance.
  • Ability to work within a diverse population of employees and members.
  • CPR/First Aid certification required in first 30 days of employment.

Our Member Engagement team works closely with our members in servicing memberships, building relationships and creating an inviting and safe atmosphere. Our Member Engagement Associates are friendly, outgoing and provide exceptional service to ensure every person who comes to the Y community feels welcomed and safe.

In this role, you will greet members, program participants, visitors and partners, check members into the facility, sell new memberships, manage existing memberships, and be familiar with onsite programs and classes in order to answer questions, address questions, comments or concerns as well as some administrative duties.

Responsibilities:

  • Greet and assist all members, potential members, community partners, and staff in a courteous, professional and friendly manner. Be enthusiastic towards members by learning their names and expressing an interest in their YMCA activities. Strive to enrich their Y experience by introducing new programs, staff, members and volunteer activities.
  • Answer the phone, provide requested information, direct calls and take accurate messages.
  • Check-in all persons for membership, program, or ID cards upon entering the facility.
  • Provide membership interviews and facility tours as needed, explaining the YMCA mission and programs.
  • Respond to member needs. Contact appropriate personnel when necessary. Handle complaints in a courteous manner. Effectively negotiate and resolve customer service problems. Use appropriate forms to communicate concerns or praise.
  • Accurately register participants for classes, sign up new members and process payments.
  • Accept and process membership payments and back balances.
  • Complete accident reports (required) for all injuries and incidents.
  • Maintain a neat and professional appearance. Adhere to the standard uniform and dress code.
  • Attend regular staff meetings as scheduled by supervisor. Assist in training new personnel where appropriate.
  • Report to supervisor and/or director of any unusual incidents. Take responsibility for follow through of communication.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in a timely and efficient manner.

Requirements:

  • Provide excellent service to Y members, program participants, community and staff.
  • Ability to problem solve efficiently and effectively to ensure a timely resolution.
  • A comfort in conflict resolution in-person.
  • Must be reliable, dependable and flexible.
