Y’s Time Children’s Center in St. Albans is a collaborative between the YMCA and the Government. We serve children ages 12 months through 5 years and operate on a full-day year-round basis. Our hours of operation are 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. We are a nationally accredited program. NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children) administers the largest and most widely recognized sponsored accreditation system verifying compliance with criteria for high-quality early childhood programs. Philosophy The philosophy of the program is to provide a quality experience for children, fostering social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and creative development through enriching and positive relationships. Curriculum The curriculum is a blend of teacher-directed and individual learning experiences with a hands-on, play-based emphasis. Teachers use the Vermont Early Learning Standards (VELS) as a guideline in developing the curriculum. There are eight domains in VELS which include: Approaches to Learning; Social and Emotional Development; Language, Literacy, and Communication; Physical Development and Health. Additional enrichment opportunities may include gross motor, music, movement, outdoor play and field trips. Children learn by exploring their environment and the world around them to develop an increased ability to think, reason, question and experiment. Please click here for the 2009-2010 Parent Handbook.
