Orchard Elementary, 2 Baldwin Ave., South Burlington 05403

The YMCA Preschool at Orchard Elementary and Chamberlin Elementary hosts two classrooms at each site. One classroom is for children attending part-day; the other classroom is for children attending full-day.

As a collaborative venture, our part-day programs at both sites integrate the Essential Early Education students with the preschool students from the South Burlington Community.  We believe that an integrated setting provides valuable learning opportunities.  The children will see and learn many new social, language and self-help skills.  Children develop positive attitudes towards others with diverse needs.

Philosophy
The philosophy of the program is to provide a quality experience for children ages 3-5, fostering social, emotional, physical, cognitive and creative development through enriching experiences and positive relationships.

Curriculum
The curriculum is a blend of teacher-directed and individual learning experiences with a hands-on, play-based emphasis.  Teachers use the Vermont Early Learning Standards (VELS) as a guideline in developing the curriculum.  There are eight domains in VELS which include:  Approaches to Learning; Social and Emotional Development; Language, Literacy and Communication; Physical Development and Health.  Additional enrichment experiences may include music, movement, outdoor play and field trips.
