The YMCA is committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment for all. To promote safety and comfort, the YMCA asks all persons to act appropriately at all times when in our facilities, on our property or participating in our programs. We ask all to observe our values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
The YMCA reserves the right to deny access or membership to any person who violates our rules, exhibits inappropriate behavior or threatens the safety of members, staff or users This includes anyone accused or convicted of any crime involving sexual abuse, is or has been a registered sex offender or is currently under the influence of illegal drugs, intoxicating beverages or other substances. Such judgments will be made by the YMCA in its sole and absolute discretion.
Anyone who feels that someone has violated this standard should immediately report the behavior to a staff person on duty. Please notify a staff member if assistance is needed.
Suspension or termination of YMCA membership may result from a violation of this standard. While an incident is being investigated, the membership of the person(s) accused of violating this standard may be temporarily suspended pending a final decision.
We do utilize video technology to protect all persons. Cameras are installed in open/public areas only and not in private areas such as locker rooms, restrooms, etc.
There is a 30 day termination policy. If you wish to terminate your membership, please complete a termination form at either location. We do require that this be done in person. All memberships are on a calendar month to calendar month basis. In order to terminate your membership we require a termination form to be completed before the last day of the month in which you want your membership terminated. Monthly dues are due on the 1st of each month (even if you elect to autmatically pay on the 15th of the month - this is a courtesy that we offer - but is still payment for the calendar month). Any dues that become due within 30 days of signing this termination form will take place. For example, if you sign your termination form on April 25th, then your regularly scheduled May payment (either the 1st or 15th) will take place, and your membership will expire on May 31st. Membership dues and joining fees are non-refundable.
Members may request their membership be placed on hold for medical reasons (doctor's note required) for up to three months in a one year period. Members may not use the facilities while membership is on hold.
It is the member or participant's responsibility to provide his or her own accident and health insurance. The YMCA does not provide any such coverage for members or participants. Members should consult their physician prior to starting a fitness program.
All members must present a membership card at the time of usage. If you forget your membership card, another form of identification will be required.
Lockers are available for day use only. Please be sure to lock your belongings as the YMCA is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Items left in a locker overnight will be removed. Please store coats and gym bags in the locker room as they cannot be stored in the gym, pool or fitness areas. For the comfort of all members, there are designated adult/disabled-member areas and family areas in each locker room. Once a child has turned 7, he or she must use the same-sex locker room.
Each adult member is entitled to bring a guest with them three times per year.
A Burlington membership entitles you to access both the Burlington and Winooski locations. A Winooski membership does not include access to the Burlington location.
The YMCA reserves the right to make schedule changes to better serve our members or to combine/cancel classes due to low enrollment. If the YMCA chooses to cancel a class, participants will be issued a credit or cash refund in full. Classes missed by participants due to personal reasons will not be credited or refunded except when accompanied by a doctor's note. Requests for program credits that are made after the first class will be issued; however, credits will not be issued beyond the second class. Credits will be issued for the cost of the cancelled program.
The Greater Burlington YMCA participates in the AWAY (Always Welcome At the Y) program that allows YMCA members travelling outside of their hometown to utilize other YMCA facilities across the country. A reduced guest fee may apply, so consult the Y that you are visiting. Members of other Y's visiting the Burlington area may use our facilities for free up to three times per year.
The use of cell phones are permitted in the lobby area only. Please refrain from using your phones in the locker rooms and changing areas. This policy follows current trends and recommendations from the YMCA of the USA.
Children 6 and under must have a parent in the water with them regardless of their swimming ability. There is a one-to-one ratio for swimmer to non-swimmers. Parents cannot bring in more than one non-swimmer. Children cannot swim alone with only a floatation device; a parent must be in arm's reach at all times and not rely on floatation devices. Children 10 and under must be accompanied by a parent in the pool at all times unless they pass a swim test. See a lifeguard for details.
Children age 12 and under are to be accompanied by an adult at all times while in the YMCA, unless participating in a supervised program. Parental consent forms are required for members 12 to 17 years.
The Greater Burlington YMCA, its agents or employees will not, because of the race, creed, color, national origin, maritial status, sex, sexual orientation, or gender identify any person, refuse, withhold from, or deny to that person any of the YMCA's advantages, facilities or privileges.
The YMCA, on occasion, may photograph registrants and participants in YMCA activities, programs or special events. These photos are for YMCA use only and may be used in publications, brochures, pamphlets, flyers or video productions. Please notify the photographer if you would prefer to not be included in the picture. Outside photography of any kind within the Greater Burlington YMCA is not permitted without prior consent.
