The Preschool and Kindergarten program has provided children a great start to lifelong learning since 1975.
Kindergarten
Located at the YMCA, 266 College Street, the YMCA Preschool and Kindergarten is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.

Preschool programs are available for 2 - 6 year olds, 2, 3 or 5 mornings per week. Full day options are available to 3 - 6 year old children. Offered on a school calendar basis, with a summer program possibly available for full day children. The early education program include swim, physical education and field trips in conjunction with an enriching curriculum providing hands-on learning through art, music and movement, dramatic play, sensory tables, language and literacy, outdoor play and group time.

Our nationally accredited and state approved kindergarten includes an enriched, integrated curriculum with optimal student/teacher ratios, as well as physical and aquatic education.

Our Goals
  • To provide a safe, warm and comfortable environment in which each child can build strong, positive relationships with adults and other children.
  • To develop positive self-concepts by creating an atmosphere geared to successful experiences.
  • To provide opportunities for each child to develop his/her whole body through small and large muscle activities.
  • To promote character development by teaching and demonstrating the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
  • To give each child a stimulating and creative experience that promotes a genuine desire to learn.

Teaching Staff
The teaching team consists of caring, trained early-education professionals. Teachers are qualified by formal education and experience, and are of the highest character and personal standards.

Curriculum
Our curriculum is a blend of teacher-directed and individual learning experiences, incorporated within a multisensory hands-on approach. Children learn by using their five senses to explore the world around them while developing an increased ability to think, reason, question and experiment. They learn how to follow directions, and make choices in an environment filled with language and enrichment opportunities. Swim and gym instructions are also a part of the weekly preschool and kindergarten curriculum.

Program Philosophy
The YMCA Preschool and Kindergarten believes in fostering social, emotional, physical, cognitive and creative development through enriching experiences and positive relationships.
