At the Y, we recognize cancer is a life-changing health event, one that can take a tremendous emotional and physical toll on those diagnosed with it. LIVESTRONG at the YMCA helps those affected by cancer adjust to their “new normal” and live life to the fullest.
Following an online voting campaign conducted last spring, 16 YMCA associations were selected as recipients of the LIVESTRONG at the YMCA program through the LIVESTRONG Community Impact Project. We are honored to have been selected to bring this proven cancer support program to the Greater Burlington community.
LIVESTRONG at the YMCA is a free, twelve-week small group program tailored to serve adult cancer survivors, those before, during and after treatment. The program will take place at the Winooski Y beginning March 4th and will be led by specially trained Y staff committed to supporting each individual safely achieve his or her wellness goals.
LIVESTRONG at the YMCA leaders will help participants increase flexibility and endurance, build muscle mass and strength, reduce the severity of side effects and prevent unwanted weight change. And those are just some of the physical benefits. LIVESTRONG at the YMCA also nurtures emotional healing and fosters important social connections.
LIVESTRONG at the YMCA is supported entirely through donations. Please consider a gift to the Y for All annual campaign. Thank you!
